Woman, daughter gunned down

ISLAMABAD: A woman and her daughter were gunned in the rural area of the capital over a property dispute on Monday night, police said.

The victims were identified as Shahida Perveen and her daughter, Mariam Bibi.

The incident took place at the house of Talib Hussain at Nilore. Police said Perveen’s brother, armed with a 12-bore gun, along with another man holding a 30-bore pistol stormed the house and shot her dead. Mariam was sprayed with six bullets by the other man. Both the women died on the spot said the police.

According to the police, there was a dispute between the woman and her brother over their inherited lands as he had sold it and refused to give her a share.

Their relations were already strained when the brother sent a marriage proposal for Mariam for someone. However, her mother turned down the proposal.

The Nilore police have registered a double murder case in response to a complaint lodged by Mr. Hussain. However, both the suspected killers have gone into hiding.
