Man commits suicide after killing sister

LAHORE: A former police constable reportedly committed suicide shortly after killing his elder sister in Nawankot area here on Tuesday.

Identified as Abid Ali, the constable who was serving in Gujranwala had been dismissed from service. He had a property dispute with his sister Sajida (50).

A police official said both sides had claimed a major share in the inherited property and the elders of the family intervened many a time in the past to resolve the dispute. A couple of days back, he said, Sajida met his bother and demanded her share from the parents’ property who refused to do so asking her to first settle the matter of share.

On Tuesday, the official said, Abid visited the house of his sister and discussed the matter which later led to an exchange of heated arguments.

Abid got annoyed and shot at his sister, killing her on the spot. He later committed suicide by shooting himself with the same pistol, the police official said.

The police have shifted the bodies to the city morgue for autopsy.

Further investigation is under way.

Encounter: Police claim that a suspected robber, who was in their custody, was killed in a crossfire with criminals in Gujarpura area in the wee hours of Tuesday.

As per police, suspect Babar alias Babri was in the custody of Crime Investigation Agency (CIA). He was being taken for identification of a house for raid when unidentified armed men attacked the police team for Babar’s release, they claimed.

A police official said the police returned the fire, ensuing a shootout with the attackers.

During the crossfire, he said, bullets fired by unidentified criminals hit Babar who died on the spot. The attackers fled the scene.

The police official said the body of the suspect was shifted to the city morgue for an autopsy and a case registered against the unidentified attackers.

Two murdered: Unidentified gunmen allegedly shot dead two young men in the Raiwind area here on Tuesday.

Armed men sprayed a volley of bullets on Muhammad Ahsan, 21, and Nadeem, 22, and killed them.

Police teams were in the area to get detail of the credentials of the deceased people and gather forensic evidence.

The chief minister took notice of the incident, asking the Lahore police authorities to submit a report.

A police official said Ahsan and Nadeem were going by a car when they came under attack at Chaju Chowk of Raiwind. He said the attackers fled the scene.
