Six-year-old ‘sexually assaulted’, murdered

FAISALABAD: A six-year-old girl was found murdered in Jaranwala on Saturday.

The family took out a protest rally over the alleged refusal of the police to include the rape charge in the FIR. Her uncle told The Express Tribune that she had gone missing on Firday while walking home from a neighbourhood shop.
“Some neighbours discovered the body in the village graveyard. She had been strangled,” he said. The family identified her after police informed them they had found a body, he said. He said that the parents had asked police to register a rape and murder case.

“Police have only registered a murder case and sent the body to the morgue,” he said. Subsequently, her relatives and neighbours took out a protest rally at Faisalabad-Jaranwala Road against police.
Abdur Rasheed, one of the protestors, said that police had been informed quite early. He believed that she died due to their inaction.

Jaranwala SHO Khalid Mehmood said that the body had been sent for a post mortem examination to determine whether the girl had been raped. “If the autopsy confirms it, we will add rape sections in the first information report,” he said. A special police team has been constituted to investigate the incident, he added.
