Lahore, 27-Jan-2026 (PPI): Railways Minister Muhammad Hanif Abbasi has issued a directive aimed at enhancing the revenue of Pakistan Railways, ordering the preparation of a new model plan for transporting automobiles to better exploit freight potential.

The minister articulated this new strategy during a high-level meeting in Lahore, where he underscored the necessity of extending greater facilities to the business community as a core component of the financial turnaround plan.

A key element of the directive includes the development of a specialised plan comprising fifty wagons dedicated specifically to the transportation of vehicles.

Whilst acknowledging the progress made by the national carrier, Mr Abbasi asserted that there remains significant room for improvement across both the freight and passenger divisions of the state-owned enterprise.
