Pakistan’s Minister Decries Climate Injustice as Ten Nations Monopolise Green Funds

Islamabad, 26-Jan-2026 (PPI): Pakistan's Federal Minister for Climate Change, Dr. Musadik Malik, has highlighted a severe disparity in the global climate finance system, pointing out that approximately 85 percent of green funding is directed towards just ten countries which are also responsible for nearly 70 percent of worldwide greenhouse gas emissions.

The minister’s remarks came during a meeting with the Ambassador of Denmark to Pakistan, Ms. Maja Mortensen, held at his office on Monday. The engagement focused on the evolving role of science diplomacy within the current international political landscape.

Dr. Malik stressed the disproportionate burden of climate change borne by nations in the Global South, which he noted have made comparatively lower contributions to global emissions.

During the discussion, the minister briefed the Danish envoy on Pakistan’s strategic plans to establish a Green University. This initiative aims to cultivate joint research programmes and facilitate student and faculty exchanges with prominent universities around the world.

The dialogue also covered the prevailing global political situation and its consequences for international climate action. Dr. Malik expressed his appreciation for the robust social welfare models and progressive environmental values characteristic of the Nordic countries.

Both the minister and the ambassador concluded the meeting by reaffirming their mutual commitment to fortifying bilateral ties and enhancing collaboration on climate initiatives and science diplomacy.
