Islamabad, 27-Jan-2026 (PPI): Myanmar has formally expressed its gratitude to Pakistan for providing timely support in the aftermath of a catastrophic earthquake on March 28, 2025. The commendation was delivered during a high-level meeting in the capital between Myanmar’s Union Minister for Foreign Affairs, U Than Swe, and Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif, where discussions centred on enhancing bilateral relations.

During the talks, Prime Minister Sharif articulated the need for broadening the scope of cooperation between the two nations. He specifically highlighted sectors such as trade and economic engagement, education, cultural programmes, capacity-building initiatives, and people-to-people exchanges as key areas for development.

The Prime Minister also took the opportunity to commend Myanmar for its significant collaboration in combating human trafficking. Furthermore, he acknowledged the nation’s valuable support for Pakistan's ongoing engagement with the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN).

In his remarks, Foreign Minister U Than Swe reciprocated the sentiments, conveying warm greetings and good wishes from Myanmar's leadership. He affirmed his country’s strong desire to fortify its relationship with Pakistan across various fields of mutual interest.

The visiting dignitary also extended his appreciation to the Prime Minister for the warm reception provided to him and the members of his delegation during their visit.
