A senior Pakistani diplomat has accused India of "water terrorism" and pledged that Islamabad will counter the threat with the same resolve it displayed against what he described as Indian aggression in May of last year.

The declaration was made by Zulfiqar Ali, First Secretary at Pakistan's Permanent Mission to the United Nations, while speaking at the UN Security Council's Open Debate on the Rule of Law.

In his response to remarks from an Indian representative, the Pakistani official asserted that sermons on law and justice from India were "hollow, in fact comical." He went on to describe the neighbouring country as a "peddler of lies, planner of global assassination campaigns and a plotter of terrorism in the region and beyond."

Mr Ali called on India to fulfil its international legal obligations by implementing existing UNSC resolutions on Jammu and Kashmir.

He further demanded an end to the "repression and systematic grave violations of human rights" of the Kashmiri population and urged the Indian government to mollify its ethnic minorities.

The diplomat concluded by advocating for a path of dialogue and diplomacy to create an environment of peace and stability, which he stated would ensure a better future and prosperity for billions in the region.
