More steps for women’s emancipation demanded

Karachi, July 09 (PPI): Sindh Minister for Women Development Tauqir Fatima Bhutto has stressed the need to provide rural and urban women, an environment for boosting their skills and capabilities to get economic independence.

This she said while addressing a press conference along with TV artist Atiqa Odho at a local hotel on Wednesday. The press conference was held to highlight the exhibition “Womenza” to be held at Karachi Expo Center from August 29 to 31, 2008.

She said that Sindh Ministry for Women Development is hosting the exhibitions with the cooperation of private sector, in order to provide platforms to rural and urban women to exchange their experience and vision to boost their abilities in business and other professions.

The minister said that earlier the ministry had organized a women-related program with the cooperation of EEE and now private sector is also cooperating the ministry to create a woman-friendly environment.
She said that her ministry is making efforts to introduce skills, work and capabilities of Pakistani women at international level. She said that such exhibitions would encourage the women to use their capabilities to earn their livelihood as professional and businesswomen.

Tauqir Fatima Bhutto said that in this age of unemployment, lawlessness and price hike, our efforts to encourage women through such programs to make them self-sufficient would continue.

She said that we are more focusing first to introduce the handicrafts of rural women and second to improve the economic condition of women. She said that work is going on to empowering the women through a social method.

Ms Fatima said that Pakistani society is an Islamic society and Sindh Ministry for Women Development is also working to introduce Sindhi cultural traditions through such exhibitions.

She said that women want their 20 percent quota in government jobs. She said that efforts are being made to control harassment of working women in offices and factories.

She said that Womenza like exhibitions would also be held in interior Sindh, particularly in Nawabshah, Sukkur and Larkana. She condemned the tribal traditions of Sindh of keeping the women indoors and not allowing them to work outdoors. She said that people of interior Sindh would be convinced to allow the women to work outdoors for a bright and prosperous future.

The minister said that ‘best performance awards’ would also be given to women in this exhibition.

TV artist Atiqa Odho, Brand Ambassador of Womenza, said that we are making efforts to involve businesswomen to contribute for the welfare of other women. She said that she was working for the welfare of women by encouraging them at the platform of TV and other forums like this exhibition ‘Womenza’.

She emphasized upon the rural and urban women to exchange their views and experience of their business and professions. She also asked the women to work stand by the men in every field of life.

Syed Rehan Hashmi, CEO of KNACK (Pvt) Limited said that his organization is organizing this exhibition ‘Womenza’ to provide a platform to rural and urban women to exchange their views regarding business and professions so that they could improve their economic condition.

He said that exhibition is also focusing to encourage women to come out the homes and work in different fields of life. He stressed the need to reduce market gap between rural and urban areas of the country so that rural women could also earn a better livelihood.

In this three-day exhibition, ‘Womenza Elegance’ will display personal theme of women wear, beauty and personal care, health care and nutrition, fashion and trends, life style and art and design studio.

Womenza Prominence’ will exhibit the family theme of convenience, around the house, fun and entertainment, food and beverages, home d‚cor and comfort, travel and recreation and ceremonies and marriages.

Womenza Proficient’ will be focus on social theme of interaction, women’s social circles, women entrepreneurs, financial services, education, media and publication, traditions and all about women.
