Malala to have little interaction with media

By: MASOOD HAIDER

UNITED NATIONS: Concerns over Malala Yousufzai’s safety have inhibited her interaction with world media at the United Nations and her media advisers and the entourage have kept a tight control over her engagements.

When asked at a press briefing on Thursday, United Nations spokesman Martin Nesriky could not say as to why she was unavailable to the press except to say that Malala would meet UN Chief Ban Ki-moon on Friday (July 12) afternoon.

However, except for photo-sessions no other media interaction was stipulated at the world body’s headquarters.

“She will address the United Nations General Assembly” along with 500 or more students on Friday, Mr Nesriky added.

During her United Nations visit, which coincides with her 16th birthday, Malala will share her experiences and raise awareness about the importance of education, particularly for girls around the world.
