Govt making efforts to educate women: minister

HYDERABAD: Sindh Minister for Women Development Tauqir Fatima has said the government is working on different schemes to educate women and encourage them for participating in social development activities.
She expressed these views in a meeting with the management committee of the Shaheed Benazir Bhutto Women Centre here late on Sunday. She said apart from the federal government, the Sindh government was also considering providing district-wise platform/organisation for the protection of women rights.
Besides, various proposals for legislation required for the protection of women rights were in the pipeline, she added.She said the tenure of the PPP government would prove a golden age for women welfare.
She said in order to empower the women economically, the government was working to have a due share of jobs in different organisations and to encourage the women artisan by providing loan facilities to them.
She made it clear that awareness among the women for the protection of their rights was essential and stressed upon the NGOs to play their role in this regard. She lauded the services rendered by the Shaheed Benazir Bhutto Women Centre for the protection of women. Later, the minister, along with the Ministry of Women Development Technical Adviser, Dr Nagina Sadaf, visited the centre.
