Girls’ school bombed in Mardan

PESHAWAR: The bombing of the Government Girls’ Higher Secondary School in the Hathian village in Mardan on Sunday night was the latest in the growing attacks on girls’ educational institutions in the district.

The bombing partially damaged the boundary wall and two rooms of the girls’ school. Though the physical damage to the building wasn’t much, the blast alarmed the people in the area and was a cause of concern for the authorities.

The police said a 10-kilogram bomb was used in the explosion. Meanwhile, a rocket fired by unidentified miscreants landed in the courtyard of the FG Girls’ School in the Cantonment area here on Monday.

Sources said unidentified miscreants fired a rocket from the Shahpur hills that fell in the courtyard of the FG Girls’ High School located near the Combined Military Hospital, causing no loss of life. The windowpanes of the classrooms were smashed and cracks appeared on the walls. The police launched a search operation in the Shahpur area soon after the terror incident.
