KARACHI: The women development department is making arrangements to impart apprenticeship training to some 500 women under the Shaheed Benazir Bhutto Youth Development Programme.
This was stated by Sindh Minister for Women Development Tauqir Fatima Bhutto while reviewing the arrangements at a meeting here on Monday.
The minister expressed the view that the training to be imparted to talented women in the field of their interest would prove beneficial to those who wanted to utilise their potential in a better manner. The training would particularly benefit the women who were currently associated with some business concern and wanted to establish their own business, she added.
The project director of the training programme told the meeting that offer letters to 152 interested women from Karachi and Thatta had already been issued. In the second phase, he said, offer letters would be issued to 111 women from Hyderabad, Badin, Tando Mohammed Khan, Tando Allahyar, Mithi and Dadu on March 26.
He said that the selected women would be given a stipend of Rs5,000 per month during the training period.
Ms Bhutto said that the scheme was in line with PPP’s slain co-chairperson Benazir Bhutto who had always advocated empowerment of women to make them economically sound.
