Farmland women seek a raise

TOBA TEK SINGH: Farmland women workers have demanded that the district administration force farm owners to raise their wages.

At a press conference on Friday, Maryam Boota and other women workers said farm owners paid Rs200 per 40 kilo to cotton-picking women, five kilo of paddy for harvesting and thrashing 40kg of paddy, and Rs25 for picking 40 kg of tomatoes or chili.

Ms Boota said women workers were also forced to do domestic chores of the cultivators. She said women were now united on a platform and they would demonstrate at the district headquarters if the administration did not give attention to their demands.
