Call for end of social injustices against women

KARACHI: Speakers called for ending all sorts of social injustices against women on the occasion of Silver Jubilee of Pakistan Women Lawyers’ Association (Pawla) on Saturday at Sharaf Faridi Hall, in Sindh High Court premises. Presiding over the seminar, Pawla President Rashida Patel said that despite several hurdles in the way, the Association was performing its duties and providing legal awareness among women. The number of legal awareness programmes would be increased in the near future to make the poor and uneducated women able to settle and resolve home affairs issues at domestic level.

She informed the audience that Pawla had settled disputes of nearly 20,000 people so far, “and we are confident that family disputes can be resolved easily with the help of legal awareness”. She urged the women in rural areas that they must get educated and train the girls to meet world challenges under the limitations of Islamic teachings. “Legal awareness and better education can change the lives of the helpless women,” she added.

Other speakers, Zaib Javed, legal Aid Secretary, Humaira Chapra, Legal Awareness Secretary and Noor Naz Agha, General Secretary, also stressed the need to increase proper education and basic human rights awareness among the women of the society so that they could achieve their due rights in the society. They said that proper awareness and education among the women would definitely help in controlling the crimes rate in the society. They also appreciated the role of non-government organisations (NGOs) and said that they must improve their work and help the poor women and children.
