ATC extends remand of accused in minor’s rape and murder case

KARACHI: The administrative judge of anti-terrorism courts (ATCs) extended on Friday the physical remand by four days of three men, accused of killing and dumping a 10-year-old girl after raping her in Bin Qasim Town.

The accused, Farhan, Shan and Junaid, were produced before the judge in the Sindh High Court. The investigation officer (IO) requested for an extension in remand which the court granted.

The court also directed the IO to complete the investigation. Parents of victim also appeared before the court.

According to the police, the case against accused has been registered under the Anti-Terrorism Act. Farhan, after sexually assaulting the minor, killed her.

Randhawa murder case

During the hearing of the murder case of Naimat Ali Randhawa, the magistrate who recorded the confessional statement, could not identify the accused, Muttahida Qaumi Movement worker Kazim Abbas Rizvi.

Rizvi and another accused, Noman, who is also an MQM worker, were produced before the court.

At the next hearing of the case, the lawyer for the accused, Javed Chathari, will cross-examine the magistrate’s statement.

The magistrate said that he recorded the accused’s statement under Section 164 five to six years ago, but he couldn’t recall whether the accused is the same man standing in the witness box.

Rizvi’s lawyer submitted request for documents of identification parade. At the next hearing, Chathari will cross-examine the magistrate’s statement on March 14.

The court has declared three MQM men as fugitives in this case. These include Azizullah, Abdullah alias Danish and Ghufran alias Sindhi. According to the police, the accused opened fire on Randhawa in September 2013 in North Nazimabad and killed him. The victim’s son, Tauqeer Randhawa, also got injured in the firing incident.
