Pakistan Face New Zealand in High-Stakes Super Six Opener

Pakistan U19 will commence the critical Super Six stage of the ICC U19 Men’s Cricket World Cup on Tuesday, facing New Zealand U19 in a pivotal opening fixture at the Harare Sports Club, with a highly anticipated encounter against India also on the horizon.

The Farhan Yousaf-led side is scheduled to contest its first match of the tournament's next phase on 27 January, with the first ball to be delivered at 9.30am local time following a 9am toss.

Ahead of the crucial contest, the squad conducted an extensive training session on Monday at the Takashinga Sports Club. Under the guidance of head coach Shahid Anwar, the players engaged in fielding drills and net practice to finalise their preparations.

Captain Farhan Yousaf expressed confidence in his team's readiness, highlighting their focused training. “Our preparations have been very encouraging as we have trained extensively,” he stated. “With the knockout phase now underway, every match carries great importance for us. The players are aware of the requirements and are taking responsibility by working hard to minimise errors.”

The skipper also singled out bowler Ali Raza for his impactful contributions, noting, “His performances have greatly lifted the bowling unit. His spells provide us with early momentum and all the bowlers are executing their roles as per the plan.”

Historically, Pakistan holds a significant advantage over New Zealand in head-to-head encounters at the U19 World Cup, having won 12 of their 16 meetings. In their most recent clash during the previous edition in South Africa, Pakistan secured a comprehensive 10-wicket victory.

Following the New Zealand fixture, Pakistan will travel to Bulawayo to take on arch-rivals India in their second Super Six match at the Queens Sports Club on Sunday, 1 February.

For viewers in Pakistan, the match will be broadcast live on PTV Sports and Geo Super. Live streaming options will be available on the Myco, Tamasha, ARY ZAP, and Tapmad platforms.
