Girl tortured for ‘refusing proposal’

CHAK JHUMRA: Police have arrested six people accused of kidnapping a young woman and her brother and subjecting them to torture.

The complainant, who is a final year student of BDS, filed a case in which she stated that Ana Ali, daughter of accused Danish Ali, a resident of Paradise Valley in Sheikhupura, was a friend of hers since their school days and she (the complainant) often visited her house. The complainant alleged that during these visits the accused Danish Ali starting taking interest in her and even formally sent a proposal which she rejected.

The complainant alleged that after she rejected the proposal, the accused through his daughter Ana Ali began to put pressure on her to change her mind and accept the proposal. However, she remained steadfast and stood by her decision.

Thecomplainant alleged that the accused even began to send her death threats. After those threats, the complainant said that she decided that from now on she would have nothing to do with her friend and her family.

The complainant alleged that on August 9, when her brother, Hasan Ghafoor Ali, who had come from England, and his friends, Malik Ali Awan, Ali Alvi and she herself were at home, accused Sheikh Danish Ali, his daughter and Faizan, Shoaib and Khan Muhammad barged into their house and started torturing her and her brother at gunpoint. They entered her bedroom, took an expensive mobile phone, Rs500, 000 cash and two bangles worth Rs 450, 000.

The complainant said that the accused then kidnapped her brother and herself and took them to their residence.

“The accused tortured me and my brother and abused me in different ways and compelled me to lick their shoes. Later, accused Sheikh Ana Ali and Maham made a video of me while cutting my hair with scissors on the instruction of accused Sheikh Danish and made the video viral on social media,” she added.

She also alleged that Sheikh Danish Ali tried to rape her.

She alleged that accused Sheikh Danish had raped her many times before.

In this regard, accused mill owner Malik Sheikh Danish had said that he didn’t know the girl, and he and his family was being blackmailed.

The Women Police Station has registered a case under various sections against the accused.

The City Police Officer, Omer Saeed Malik, took notice of the incident and formed a special team headed by the SP of Madina Town.

The CPO said that protecting the honour and rights of women was one of the top priorities of police.

‘Karo Kari’ claims 123 lives in six months in Sindh

SUKKUR: As many as 123 people, mostly women, were killed during the past six months in the name of honour killing or ‘Karo Kari’ in interior parts of Sindh, revealed in a study conducted by a women rights organization, Sindh Suhai Sath (SSS).

The study identified that all the women and men had lost their lives in the name of so-called honour killing or ‘Karo Kari’ and due to the weaknesses of the law enforcing agencies and weak prosecution. It said the figures of 123 people, including 88 women and 35 men, were brutally murdered by their relatives in the name of honour killing. The study showed that 18 people, including 12 women, in district Ghotki, 14 people, including 11 women, in district Kashmore-Kandhkot, 13, including seven women, in district Jacobabad, 10 including seven woman, in district Shikarpur, seven including five woman, in district Khairpur, and four people, including three women, in district Sukkur.

Man seeks recovery of ‘abducted’ daughter

KOHAT: An elderly man has warned of committing self-immolation in front of the provincial police chief’s office if his ‘kidnapped’ daughter is not recovered forthwith.

Addressing a press conference here on Tuesday, Iqbal Shah, a resident of Tora Stana area of Gumbat tehsil, alleged that Akhtar Ali of Nizampur area had married with his daughter after kidnapping her seven months ago. He alleged that the man later sold her to someone in Rawalpindi.

He lamented that despite his repeated applications, the district police officer, Kohat, took no action to recover his daughter, who was already married.

He said though the culprit had been arrested, his daughter was still missing.

He appealed to the chief minister to take notice of his misery and ensure early recovery of his daughter.

Two women tortured over litigation in Okara

OKARA: An elderly woman and her daughter-in-law were severely injured by their rivals over litigation at Chak 39/4-L.

A first information report (FIR) was registered on complaint of 70-year-old Munira Bibi, a resident of Jinnah Abadi Scheme. She, along with her family and grandchildren, was at home when her old rival Imdad Husain, with whom she was involved in some court cases, entered the house.

He was accompanied by 13 accomplices, including six women of his family. Imdad asked his accomplices to thrash Munira and her daughter-in-law, Nawab Bibi, as they had declined to reconcile with him in two court cases over a piece of land.

Imdad and accomplices allegedly used weapons and iron rods to beat both the women who received multiple injuries. The villagers rescued the women from attackers. The suspects made a video of the incident also.

The women got medico-legal certificates from the Rural Health Centre, Shahbore, and registered a case against Imdad, Ayub, Khalil, Nawaz, Rani, Nooran, Rajin, Rehmat Bibi, Sakina, Allah Muafi and three unidentified accomplices.

Police claimed to have arrested Imdad.

15 booked for abduction, sexual assault

TOBA TEK SINGH: Faisalabad women police station on Tuesday booked 15 suspects for abduction, torture, extortion and sexual assault on the complaint of a final year dentistry student after the city police officer took notice of the Aug 8 incident.

The complainant BDS student, a resident of Faisalabad said in her FIR registered under sections 376, 382, 354, 342, 148, 149, 337-A, 337-F, 337-L and 337-V that she lived with her elderly mother as his two brothers resided in UK and Australia, respectively.

She said that she had friendship and family terms with her school fellow ‘A’.

She said that her plight began when her friend’s brother ‘D’ proposed her for marriage, but she and her family rejected the proposal.

CPO takes action on complaint of BDS student

She said on Aug 8, when her brother ‘H’ returned form UK, the suspect ‘D’ and his 14 accomplices arrived at their house and forced her brother to accept the marriage proposal.

She said when her brother rejected the proposal, the suspect and his accomplices tortured her and ‘H’ and forcibly took them to D’s house where they again thrashed them.

She said the suspect also forced her to lick his shoes, shaved her head and an eyebrow and filmed the humiliating episode.

The suspect then took her in another room where he subjected her to sexual assault and recorded the act.

She said the suspects also snatched their costly mobile phones, and extorted Rs500, 000 and gold ornaments worth Rs450, 000 from them.

The complainant said the suspects also demanded Rs1 million and threatened that if the amount was not paid, they would upload the video clips on social media.

City Police Officer Umar Saeed Malik said a team headed by Madina Town police division SSP had arrested six of the 15 suspects, assuring the complainant that justice would be done.
