Women’s reserved seats in NA

ISLAMABAD: Justice Mohammed Munir Peracha of the Islamabad High Court here on Tuesday observed that it would be worthwhile to hear views of heads of political parties regarding seats reserved for women in the National Assembly.

He expressed the opinion after winding up proceedings over a writ moved by Jamiat Ulema-e-Islam (JUI-F) chief Maulana Fazlur Rehman against non-allocation of a seat in the National Assembly for Naseema Kishwar from the NWFP by the Election Commission.

Justice Peracha observed that since the matter was of utmost importance, the court might issue notices to heads of all the political parties. He said viewpoints of all the political parties’ leadership on the fixation of last date for determining the allocation of women reserved seats to various parties on the basis of their representation would be significant.
