ISLAMABAD: The National Commission on the Status of Women has been renamed as `National Commission for Women`, an autonomous body, following the devolution of the ministry of women development.
To celebrate its autonomous status, the commission organised a function here on Thursday.
“With the autonomy, we will at last be able to operate independently and contribute with a big difference to the cause of women,” said Anis Haroon, the chairperson of the commission.
The commission will remain attached with the ministry of human rights and representation of Pakistan at all international and bilateral levels involving gender-related matters will be handled by the ministry.
Speaking on the occasion, MNA Shahnaz Wazir Ali said the autonomous commission can now be more assertive and play a more meaningful role in promoting women`s rights agenda, says a statement issued on Thursday.
