Couple murdered in Larkana

LARKANA: A couple was murdered by their relative over karo-kari near Masan here on Thursday.

Police said in Village Luhar Muree accused Shah Nawaz Murri killed his cousin Marriam Murree and Manzoor Babar over alleged karo-kari. Police reached on the spot and arrested the accused. The body was handed over to the heirs after post-mortem. Saleh Murree, the father of Marriam, lodged an FIR with the Masson police station against Shah Nawaz Murree.

Karo-kari claims four lives

SUKKUR: Two men and two women were killed in karo-kari incidents in the Doda Pur police station area of Jacobabad on Thursday.

In the first incident, one Hooran Katohar killed his wife Nawab Khatoon, 20, and Aslam Katohar in Mahwa Malghani village on suspicions of their involvement in illicit relationship.

Police took the bodies to Jacobabad hospital for post mortem and later handed them over to relatives.

Brothers of the woman and the man have registered a case against Hooran Katohar at Doda Pur police station.

In the other incident, one Mushtaque Brohi killed his sister, Nasreen, 18, and a man Zulfiqar in Abdul Hameed Brohi village on Thursday.

Doda Pur police have registered a case on a complaint lodged by Mushtaque Brohi, a brother of the deceased.

Women commission renamed

ISLAMABAD: The National Commission on the Status of Women has been renamed as `National Commission for Women`, an autonomous body, following the devolution of the ministry of women development.

To celebrate its autonomous status, the commission organised a function here on Thursday.

“With the autonomy, we will at last be able to operate independently and contribute with a big difference to the cause of women,” said Anis Haroon, the chairperson of the commission.

The commission will remain attached with the ministry of human rights and representation of Pakistan at all international and bilateral levels involving gender-related matters will be handled by the ministry.

Speaking on the occasion, MNA Shahnaz Wazir Ali said the autonomous commission can now be more assertive and play a more meaningful role in promoting women`s rights agenda, says a statement issued on Thursday.
