Woman, two children ‘freed’ after protests

SUKKUR: Kandhdkot-Kashmore police claimed to have recovered a woman and her two young children from the clutches of kidnappers after an operation in the riverine area in Kandhkot-Kashmore district on Thursday following protests by the victims’ community and social and political activists.

Kashmore SSP Mir Rohail Khan Khoso told media persons that police got the hostages Nazia Bibi Khoso, her two-year-old daughter and newborn baby boy freed and brought them to the police station. They would hand them over to their family after completion of necessary documentations, he said.

Sources said that the woman was heavily pregnant when she was kidnapped 10 months ago and gave birth to the baby boy under captivity. Police had not recovered the hostages after operation but it had got them freed with the help of some influential persons after protests, said the sources.

The woman was kidnapped reportedly by armed men belonging to Bangwar clan, who had a dispute with Khosos over matrimonial issues, they said. Soon after their abduction, Khoso community staged demonstration blocking a section of the Indus highway for about two days. They sought help of political parties and rights activist and kept demonstrating. In the latest protest a day before, Awami Worker Party launched a ‘Paidal March’, urging police to recover the hostages.
