MUZAFFARGARH, Oct 23: A woman lawyer was allegedly attacked and injured by her husband and brother-in-law on Tuesday here at the District Courts.
Iftikhar Qureshi, District Bar Association general secretary, told Dawn advocate Zubaida Khanum and her husband, Hanan, who is also a lawyer, were living separately because of difference over some domestic issues.
Earlier, both the husband and the wife shared a chamber on the District Courts premises for practise. Now, only Ms Khanum was using it. On Tuesday, a group of lawyers met Ms Khanum to resolve the dispute between them.
He said Hanan and his brother came to her chamber and attacked her with a sharp weapon, injured her and fled. She was admitted to the District Headquarters hospital in Muzaffargarh and police registered a case against the accused.
FARZANA RAJA: Pakistan People’s Party (PPP) Punjab Information Secretary Farzana Raja said on Tuesday the PPP demanded the government probe into the Karachi blast through foreign investigators as the party believed DIG Manzoor Mughal would not complete the task efficiently.
She said this while addressing a press conference at the residence of PPP leader Mian Mughees Qureshi. She arrived here to offer condolence on behalf of PPP Chairperson Benazir Bhutto on the death of Muhammad Ashraf, of Dambarwala in Jatoi, who died in the Karachi blast.
She said Ms Bhutto would visit Muzaffargarh to offer her condolence to the grieved family. She said the party would give financial aid to the heirs to the late Ashraf.
She criticised former Punjab governor Ghulam Mustafa Khar for his recent statements against Ms Bhutto, saying Mr Khar should be retired from politics and take rest. She said Mr Khar’s role in national politics had ended.
She also criticised Pakistan Muslim League President Chaudhry Shujat Husain for his proposal to ban political rallies.
She said the PML-Q was product of drawing room politics but the PPP did not like it.
She said the PPP had opened an account in the United
Bank Limited branches and donors could deposit cash for Karachi blast victims’ families there.
Many PPP workers and ticket holders received Ms Raja on her arrival here and accompanied her to the village in the form of a rally.
She also conveyed a message of Ms Bhutto of condolence to the family of Ashraf.
