Police faces shortage of lady cops

FAISALABAD: Faisalabad Women Police is facing severe shortage of lady SHOs and constables leading to acute problems related to matters involving women and inquiry against the lady police officers.

At present, there is only one Lady Inspector, no Sub-Inspector, eight Assistant Sub Inspectors, zero head constables and 62 constables in the District.

The sources in the police department said that the shortage was mainly due to frequent transfers of the policewomen to other stations and departments.

They said SHOs got themselves transferred to other places whereas two lady Inspectors were upgraded to Senior Traffic Wardens by dint of strong recommendations. One sub inspector was transferred to Motorway Police and three inspectors were transferred after being promoted as DSP, they added.

One reason of the shortage in lady police, they said, was unwillingness of women to join this profession owing to the discriminatory conduct of male officers and lack of privileges.

The sole Lady Inspector of Faisalabad Police was dismissed one and a half month ago but had to be restored as no other Inspector or Sub-Inspector was available.

A male was appointed in the women police station as no lady head constable was available.

The district police have informed the provincial government about the shortage of lady police but the government has not yet taken any concrete step to remedy the situation.
