Woman found dead, alleged lover hurt

HYDERABAD: A young woman was found dead and her alleged paramour seriously injured on her house’s doorsteps in Effendi Town on Monday night.

The man, nephew of former MQM MPA Farzana Saeed, was in critical condition because he had shot at himself on the right temple, SHO Nisar Birhamani said. He has been admitted in the intensive care unit in serious condition.

Police said that 28-year-old Zohaib Sheikh, son of Sardar Sheikh, had been in love with 22-year-old Shumaila alias Mona, daughter of Sharif Sheikh. Their families had been living in Pucca Qilla, the girl’s family shifted to Effendi Town.

A few days ago, Zohaib went to Taunsa Sharif to his murshid because the girl’s family was not ready to accept him.

He retuned to Hyderabad following Shumaila’s call that she had been engaged to her relative, police said.

He came to her house in Effendi Town, talked to her and shot her at point blank and attempted the suicide.

Mr Birhamani said that a slip had been found in Zohaib’s pocket which said that he could not elope with Shumaila because it brought bad name to families. But since her family was not ready to marry her with him, they were taking this extreme measure, the SHO said.

He said the doctor told him that the girl had been brought to the hospital seven days ago in a serious condition because she had taken some poisonous substance.
