HYDERABAD: The A-section police on Sunday night registered a case against a woman for killing her daughter.

Sarwat Jawed is accused of killing Rabia Jawed whose body she wanted to bury through Edhi volunteers on Sunday morning. However, when the ambulance driver of the welfare centre saw the decomposing body stuffed in a gunnybag, he informed the centre in-charge, leading to arrival of the police and arrest of Sarwat.

On Monday, Sarwat was remanded to police custody for one day by the civil judge and judicial magistrate-IV, Hyderabad. She would be produced in the court on Tuesday and would be remanded to judicial custody.

According to police, the case had been lodged on behalf of state after Sarwat’s husband Jawed refused to become complainant.

He said that his wife was mental patient and she never liked her third child, Rabia.

After the arrests, police interrogated Sarwat, her son Sheheryar and daughter Urooj separately for several hours and finally made Sarwat confess to the murder.

She told police that she did not like Rabia since her birth because she considered her an unlucky child. She said that she had sent her to the house of his brother-in-law where she stayed for some time.

Later Jawed brought her back, Sarwat said, adding that she never allowed her daughter to enter her room

A police official quoted Sarwat having said during interrogation that she always felt as if Rabia was a witch.
