Woman accuses brothers of throwing acid on her

Rawalpindi: A newly-married woman narrowly escaped and only sustained minor injuries when her brothers allegedly threw acid on her for tying the nuptial knot with her own choice with a young man of her community at the Christian Colony in Nasirabad here on Thursday, the police spokesman said.

Sonia, 21, daughter of Kala Masih, lodged a complaint with the Nasirabad Police Station that she married Aasher Masih on February 6 this year against the will of her brothers and settled at the Christian Colony in Nasirabad.

She said: “After four days of our marriage, my brothers, after getting information about my whereabouts, came to my house equipped with weapons and batons and started thrashing both of us.”

She said that they thrashed her husband and wounded him critically and left her house with the threat that they would come back again to kill them. She said: “On Thursday, the door of my house was knocked at a time when we were at home. Nobody responded when I asked who’s knocking the door. As I opened the door, I saw my three brothers — Naveed, Mushtaq and Javaid — standing at the door carrying a bottle, batons and pistol in their hands. Naveed threw acid on me but I shut the door.

However, some drops of the acid affected me, but the maximum quantity of the acid fell on the iron door.” She said that her brothers attempted to break into the house but left the scene assuming they have achieved their target. She said that she rushed to ASP Cantonment Bilal Haider’s office along with her husband who ordered registration of an FIR against the attackers. She said that her brothers wanted reconciliation but she would fight against them.

Police, however, haven’t lodged an FIR against the alleged attackers nominated in the complaint.
