LHC seeks report on torture of a divorcee, murder of her son

LAHORE: The Lahore High Court Complaint Cell on Saturday sought a report from the Sheikhupura district and sessions judge about torture of a poor divorced woman and murder of her son for rejecting a marriage proposal. The LHC took notice of a press report about the incident and directed the sessions judge to look into the matter and submit a detailed report regarding steps taken by the police, along with his own comments, within a week. According to the report, accused Mohsin, a resident of Faisal Town, Mananwala, wanted to marry a divorced lady named Shazia Bibi. He along with his accomplices Muhammad Hasan and Jahan Bhatti forcefully took the woman to his home and forced her to marry him. On rejecting the proposal, the accused tortured her. Meanwhile, her 5-year-old son, Sher Haider, started crying in her lap. Accused Mohsin took the child and threw him on the ground, which caused his instant death. The accused fled after the murder. On getting information, the police took the body of child in their custody and shifted it to the District Headquarters Hospital Sheikhupura for an autopsy. The police registered a case against the said culprits and also arrested Muhammad Hassan.
