ABBOTABAD / HARIPUR: Monday took a grisly turn as two incidents of rape came to the fore in Abbottabad and Haripur.
The body of a woman in her twenties was found in a forest in Thandiyani by the Nawansher police after they were tipped off about the unclaimed remains. According to police officials, the young woman had been raped and then strangled to death.
No personal belongings were found on her to help with identification.
An autopsy at Ayub Medical Complex revealed she was in her twenties and had been raped before strangulation.
Doctors found evidence of blunt force trauma, and postulated she had been hit in the face and the head with a stone. They estimated she was raped, killed and left in the forest at least a week ago.
Her remains have been placed in the hospital mortuary. Nawansher police maintain identifying the culprit will only be possible once more is known about the victim.
In a separate incident, a teenage girl from Khoe Maira, Khanpur was allegedly raped by her lover.
The official complaint was lodged by Shahana*, the victim’s mother, with the Khanpur police. It stated 15-year-old Amna*, a first year college student, left to attend classes on Saturday but did not make it back home. When she returned Sunday evening, she told her family that *Sadaat, also from Khoe Maira, had forcibly taken her to an unknown location and raped her.
A medical officer at Khanpur Hospital examined Amna and confirmed the assault.
While recording her statement in a magistrate’s court, Amna shared she had been in a relationship with Saadat, a married man. According to the teenager, Sadaat had promised he was going to marry her on Saturday when he whisked her away and allegedly raped her. The abuse continued throughout the night after which he left her near the village, said Amna.
The investigating officer, SI Zarbat Khan, claimed the police are yet to receive the forensic report, however, the accused has been apprehended and investigation is underway.
