Two married women, who were related to each other, were shot dead at their home at Chak 33/SP, Pakpattan, on Monday morning.
As per the victims’ family members, the assailant, identified as Ali Raza, allegedly arrived on a motorcycle, entered the courtyard and fatally shot 33-year-old Shazia in the head and 22-year-old Asima Bibi in the chest with a 30-bore pistol before escaping.
Kalyana police registered an FIR under section 302 of the PPC, on a complaint filed by Sultan Ahmed, deceased Asima’s brother.
According to police sources, Shazia of Chak 65-D, Bunga Hayat, was married to Imran, of Chak 33/SP, and had three children.
Preliminary investigation suggests that Ali Raza, Shazia’s former neighbour from her native village, had persistently been harassing and pressurising her to have extramarital relations with him.
After repeatedly refusing his advances, Shazia reportedly threatened to inform her in-laws about the harassment.
The FIR states that Shazia was preparing breakfast when Ali Raza barged in and opened fire. Asima, Shazia’s sister-in-law, tried to intervene, but was also shot by the suspect. Both women died on the spot. Following the double murder, Ali Raza fled the scene while firing shots in the air.
DPO Javed Chadhar visited the scene and met the victims’ families. He told Dawn that three special teams have been formed to apprehend the suspect.
The Kalyana Police Station SHO said forensic evidence was collected from the crime scene and the bodies were shifted to DHQ Hospital, Pakpattan, for autopsy.
