In the third case of ‘honour’ killing reported in the city, a 55-year-old woman was shot dead by her husband in Faqeera Goth for ‘being in an objectionable relationship’.
SITE Super Highway SHO Anaar Khan told The News that Muhammad Khan shot his wife, Bakht Nama, to death for having an illicit relationship. The couple had four sons and three daughters.
Khan said police reached the spot and took Muhammad Khan into custody.
The police arrested Khan from the house and registered an FIR on the complaint of one of the sons, Najeebullah.
In his statement, the son maintained that his father was mentally ill and had been under treatment. He told the police that the family was trying to persuade Khan to go for a follow-up medical check-up at a clinic in Jamali Goth when he turned angry and shot his mother. However, Khan confessed killing his wife for being in a relationship with someone and that she was trying to get rid of him by declaring him mentally ill.
This month’s first case was reported on May 7 when a woman was strangled to death by her father and brother in Keamari Town’s Bhatta Village for ‘wishing to marry one of her brother-in-laws.’
Twenty-two-year-old Farzana’s body was taken to the Civil Hospital Karachi where her post-mortem examination confirmed that she was strangulated.
SSP (City) Adeel Chandio had told The News that the victim’s family initially attempted to cover-up the murder by claiming that she had committed suicide by hanging herself from a ceiling fan.
Two days ago on May 18, a 35-year-old woman was shot dead by her father on the pretext of having an ‘illicit relationship’ with an unidentified man. The incident occurred inside their home situated near Lalabad police post in Quaidabad.
Identified as Neelum, the woman was shot dead by her 60-year-old father, Jahanzaib, following a heated argument. SHO Sukhan police station, Firasat Shah, said Neelum’s neighbours heard gunshots, but when police reached on the spot, they found her lying in a pool of blood whereas Jahanzaib had fled.
Robbers injure citizen
As street crime continues to rear its ugly head in Karachi, a man was shot and injured by robbers on resistance in the city’s Baldia Town area on Friday. According to officials, two armed robbers held up a citizen identified as Zafar Sadiq, 32, near the Naval Colony in Baldia Town. The suspects ordered him at gunpoint to hand over his valuables and cash.
However, as per officials, Zafar tried to resist the robbers’ demands and they opened fire at him. The victim suffered multiple gunshot wounds that resulted in severe internal injuries.
He was rushed to the Civil Hospital Karachi and remained under treatment at the medical facility.
14 day-old body found
The Bahadurabad police claimed to have recovered the dead body of an elderly man from a house in their limits.
On a missing person complaint, a police team broke into a house in Bahadurabad and found the body of Zahid Ali Meer, 60, son of Meer Muhammad in his bedroom.
The body was shifted to the Jinnah Postgraduate Medical Centre (JPMC) for a postmortem. While the police termed it a natural death, the cause of death was yet to be confirmed. The body was handed over to the heirs for burial.
