SHC orders to trace whereabouts of minor girl

KARACHI: The Sindh High Court (SHC) directed the North Nazimabad police’s station house officer to trace the whereabouts of a 15-year-old maid, who is missing from the Rangers Officers’ flats since June 23.

The federal and provincial interior secretaries and the provincial chiefs of the Rangers have also been issued notices to file their comments regarding the minor’s disappearance by July 9.

Sakina Ghulam had approached the court over the alleged disappearance of her daughter, Tahmeena, from the paramilitary force’s officers’ flats.

She submitted that Tahmina, alias Guria, was working as maid at the Rangers Officers’ flats located adjacent to the State Bank quarters. “She went missing on June 23 at 1am,” the mother said.

The petitioner also told the judges that her daughter’s mobile phone was switched off ever since. The mother apprehended that her daughter has either been kidnapped or kept in illegal and unlawful custody.

Advocate Shabana submitted that the petitioner was a poor, illiterate lady. She had addressed several applications to the higher authorities for recovery of the missing girl, but no action had been taken so far.

Articles 4, 9, 14 and 35 of the Constitution guarantee the life, liberty of every citizen.

The court was pleaded to order the North Nazimabad SHO to register an FIR regarding the disappearance of the girl and speed up the efforts for her recovery.

Justice Muhammad Ali Mazhar, who headed the bench, issued notices to the interior secretary, the home secretary, the DG Rangers, the IG Sindh, SHO North Nazimabad and deputy attorney general for July 9.

Meanwhile, the bench ordered North Nazimabad SHO to make efforts to trace the whereabouts of the alleged detenue and submit a report by the next date of hearing.
