Rape victim seeks help

JHANG, January 31 2006: A rape victim has sought help of the Human Rights Commission of Pakistan, Jhang chapter, after failing to convince police to bring to book the accused.

At the HRCP office here on Monday January 30 schoolteacher Bilquis Zafar of Garh Maharaja alleged Azhar Dar with the help of Najma and Sattan Mai abducted her a year ago. He sold her to Fazal Abbas and Jabbar who took her to an unknown place and raped her for a month. Later, they handed her over to Ismail and Mumtaz who also raped her. She became pregnant and gave birth to a son some two months ago.

A month ago, she escaped from their custody and approached the Garh Maharaja police to get a case registered against the accused, but the SHO refused to do so.

She has appealed to the HRCP highups to help her get justice.

Meanwhile, HRCP’s Jhang coordinator Qamar Abbas Zaidi, who is also district coordinator of the Alliance against Child Abuse, has urged the DPO to arrest the accused who had sodomized 13-year old Waseem in Chiniot.

Wasim, who was sodomized by Akram, Shahzad and Bhola Gujjar, has been shifted to the Allied Hospital, Faisalabad, in a critical condition.
