Rape convict sentenced to 22 years in prison

LAHORE – A special court convicted a suspect for raping a 25-year-old woman after abduction and sentenced him to 22 years in prison here on Monday. According to the prosecution, the convict identified as Samson Masih kidnapped the woman when she was on her way from home. He took her to an unidentified place where he raped her and held her hostage for a month. The Factory Area police traced his location with the help of his cell phone and arrested him. An accomplice of him absconded and died later on. The police registered a case against him and produced him before the court. Additional District and Sessions Judge Jamshed Mubarik, presiding officer of a special court dealing with gender-based violence cases, convicted Samson Masih for his crime and handed down 22-year imprisonment to him. The judge also fined him Rs300, 000 and ordered him to pay Rs200, 000 to the victim as compensation money (Daman). It is to be noted that during the trial, as many as 10 people swore testimony against the convict.
