Probe into Sui rape case begins

QUETTA, January 18, 2005:A tribunal comprising Justice Ahmad Khan Lashari of Balochistan High Court, which was set up to probe into gang rape case of lady doctor in Sui, started hearing on January 17.

Five officers of special investigation team of police including Deputy Superintendent of Police (DSP), Abdul Kareem Mengal, DSP Yaqoob Butt, Inspector Malik Muhammad Khan, Sub-Inspector Muhammad Ilyas and Sub-Inspector Muhammad Jahangir appeared before the court and recorded their statements.

Lady doctor Shazia, victim of alleged criminal assault through a written application informed the tribunal that she could not attend the proceeding in connection with hearing of the case being unwell and would appear before the tribunal some other day.

Assistant advocate general Aman Ullah Tareen argued that the proceedings on case could not move ahead in real sense unless the lady doctor records her statement by appearing before the tribunal physically. Tribunal adjourned the hearing of the case.
