Islamabad: President Asif Ali Zardari paid special tribute to Pakistanis for waging a relentless struggle for the rights of women culminating in the adoption of far-reaching legislations to protect and empower women.

He said this day has a special significance for the Pakistan People’s Party (PPP) whose leader Shaheed Mohtarma Benazir Bhutto led from the front in the fight for the cause of women and other vulnerable sections of the society.

The President said: “On this occasion, I wish to congratulate the Parliament and all the political parties for demonstrating wisdom and commitment to uphold the rights of women by adopting women related legislations unanimously.” He said, “…today many women in Pakistan hold important offices and are proving to the world that our womenfolk are no less talented than our men.”
