Islamabad, 28-Jan-2026 (PPI): Pakistan is set to enhance its climate action strategy by integrating science diplomacy, a move deemed critical to tackling the significant economic and social burdens the nation faces due to climate change. The initiative follows a high-level discussion between Federal Minister for Climate Change and Environmental Coordination, Dr. Musadik Malik, and Mr. Alexis Roig, the Chief Executive Officer of SciTech DiploHub.
During the session, Dr. Malik commended the pioneering work of Mr. Roig and his organisation in bridging the gap between scientific research and international diplomacy. The minister emphasised that this integration is an urgent global necessity and particularly crucial for Pakistan’s resilience.
The dialogue centred on utilising Pakistan’s indigenous knowledge and research capabilities to foster science-based and evidence-driven policymaking. To bolster this approach, the participants explored the development of structured training and fellowship programmes, including innovative models to embed scientists directly within government ministries to improve policy formulation and execution.
A key outcome of the meeting was a mutual agreement to jointly formulate a detailed roadmap within one week. This strategic plan will delineate future areas of collaboration, with a specific focus on mobilising the AGC and a cohort of approximately 100 PhD-level climate scientists. The roadmap also aims to address methods for raising climate financing and establishing sustainable scientific advisory frameworks.
The pivotal meeting was attended by a broad group of key stakeholders, including representatives from the Higher Education Commission (HEC), the Global Change Impact Studies Centre (GCISC), leading universities, national research centres, and the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
