‘Overstay’ at parents’ home takes woman’s life

LARKANA: An urban man killed his 28-year-old wife on Wednesday “for overstaying at her parentsÂ’ home” and then branded her as kari (adulteress) by taking benefit of the so-called tradition of honour killing to save his skin.

Ms Sanam returned to her home in Ayoub Colony after a visit to her parents’ home which took her longer than her husband Liaquat Ali Korai had allowed, sources said.

As soon as she entered the house, Liaquat shot her dead and later branded her as kari.

The SHO of Haidri police station told journalists that, according to his knowledge, it was a domestic dispute which led to the innocent woman’s murder.

But Superintendent of Police (investigation) Masroor Jatoi disputed the SHO’s opinion, insisting the murder was result of of a karo-kari dispute but the relatives were hiding the facts.

Late Sanam’s relatives who were present at the police station were tight lipped over motive behind the murder. They took away the body after autopsy but did not lodge the FIR because they were reluctant to do so for unknown reasons, police said.
