TAXILA: Police arrested a man for allegedly subjecting his mother to torture and hurling threats to kill
her in village Sojhanda, in the jurisdiction of Attock Saddar police station.
The victim woman filed an application with the police, stating that she was widowed in 2021 and that her
son, a drug addict, subjected her to brutal torture and threatened her with dire consequences for not giving him money.
On the woman`s complaint, police registered a case against the accused under the Protection of Parents
Ordinance, 2021, and sent him behind bars.
Under the ordinance, evicting parents is a punishable offence. Those found guilty may face a prison term of up to one year, a fine, or both.
District Police Officer Dr Ghyias Gul Khan said that all legal requirements will be ful-filled to punish the
accused.
He stated that violence against elderly parents is a deplorable act.
`Those found guilty of violating the sanctity of relationships will definitely be punished,` he said, adding
that violence against women will not be tolerated.
On the other hand, police on Thursday arrested a man who allegedly gunned down a student after a brief
scuffle in the College Chowk area, within the jurisdiction of Fatehjang police station.
The victim`s mother-a widow and native of Lakki Marwat reported to police that her son, Waleed Qureshi, a HSSC-II student at a local college, exchanged hot words with his neighbour, Adam Gull, over a petty dispute. She added that, in a fit of rage, Gull took out his pistol and opened fire on him, resulting in his death on the way to the hospital.
Police arrested the accused and recovered the pistol used in the alleged murder of the teenager.
