ISLAMABAD: The Women’s International Squash Players Association (WISPA) has nominated Pakistan’s top player Maria Toor Pakay for the young player of the year award, Daily Times learnt here on Monday.
A source in the Pakistan Squash Federation (PSF) said the final result would be announced on the eve of world squash award ceremony to be held on December 21. “Maria produced inspiring results in the various WISPA events this year at home and away. Her name has been short-listed for the award,” he said.
Maria gave remarkable performance in the last four international fixtures of WISPA. She played semi-final at Pakistan Ordinance Factories (POF) Wah and qualified for the main round in Malaysia. She also did well in Egypt by reaching the eighth stage of the tournament by toppling high-ranking international players. She displayed a similar performance in the recently concluded Pakistan Open International Squash Championship in which she reached the quarter-finals.
