Man throws acid in faces of two sisters

LAHORE: A man on Tuesday threw acid in the face of two sisters after “they refused to develop illicit relations” with him.

However, no arrest was made till the filing of this report (11:15pm). An FIR (first information report) has been registered under sections 324 and 336 of the Pakistan Penal Code on the complaint of Shakeela (27). She told the police that she was visiting her parents in the city.

She said when she had left home along with her younger sister Sonia, a neighbour, Boota, intercepted them on Defence Road and threw acid in their faces. The girls received burn injuries while Boota fled from the scene.

She said some passers-by had rushed them to a nearby hospital where they were stated as being in stable condition.

Muhammad Nawaz, the investigation officer of the case, said that they had raided Boota’s house, but the accused (Boota) was not at home. He said the accused would soon be detained by the police. He said that they had been trying to get information about the accused. He said the police had investigated some of Boota’s friends. He said the police had also raided Boota’s workplace, but to no avail.

Assistant Superintendent of Police Ameen Bokhari said that the police had been trying to curb street crime. On the directions of Inspector General (IG) Doctor Azhar Hassan Nadeem, he said, the police had been trying to start a liaison between the police and the people to boost the image of police as well as for the confidence of citizens. He said the police had started public-friendly policing in the city.

Shakeela and Sonia told Daily Times that Boota had been teasing them for the last couple of years. They said he wanted to form illicit relations with them. They said, “We belong to a poor family but we love to be honoured, that is why we refused to go astray.” Shakeela said once she got married Boota started harassing her sister, Sonia.
