ISLAMABAD: A gang-rape victim of Bahawalpur, Nadia Khan Abbasi, on Friday appealed to Prime Minister Yousuf Raza Gilani to provide her justice.
Addressing a press conference at the Islamabad Press Club, the victim, who was assaulted by some influential youth, accused the police and other officials of siding with the accused, failing to register any FIR against them and releasing them.
She said the accused, Malik Ansar Negana and Malik Ejaz Guddan, had been freed due to the pressure from the influential people. She added that after the release of the alleged rapists, a “jubilant” celebration, replete with a grand display of fireworks, was held by the influential Gardezi clan in the village, while armed men kept on circling around her home on their noisy motorbikes.
The alleged rapists were freed despite a proven case registered under Section 149/03, and sending repeated faxes to the prime minister and senior police officials, demanding an impartial and independent inquiry into the incident by some honest and law-abiding police official, she claimed.
The victim and her family requested the prime minister, the Sharif brothers, the Punjab chief minister, Punjab IG, Bahawalpur RPO and other high-ups to register a case against the accused of Syed Tasneem Nawaz Gardezi’s clan under the Zina/Hudood Ordinance and refer the investigations to SSP Crime Branch Shah Hussain or any other honest officer or the family would carry out self-immolation in front of the Prime Minister Secretariat.
