Freewill couple, police attacked near court

LARKANA: Two armed men fired at a police vehicle carrying a newly-wed couple outside the Sindh High Court, Larkana, on Friday soon after the judge ordered police to shift the couple to the safe place as desired by the couple.

Both the attackers were arrested and booked at the Rehmatpur police station.

Tariq Solangi, a resident of Dadu, and Yasmeen Marri, a resident of Balach Marri village (Larkana), had contracted a freewill marriage and filed a petition in the court seeking protection against the woman’s relatives who, according to them, had issued life threats to them and lodged an FIR of kidnapping against Mr Solangi.

The couple on Friday appeared before Justice Abdul Malik Gaddai, who quashed the FIR and asked the Rehmatpur police to shift the couple safely to their desired place.

When the police party was shifting the couple, two armed men fired at the police vehicle outside the court premises. The couple and policemen, however, escaped unhurt.

The police overpowered Karim Dad Marri and Syed Sajjad Shah and took them to the Rehmatpur police station.

Later, on a compliant by ASI Safdar Larik, an FIR (109/2013) under sections 324, 353, 506/2 and 34 PPC was registered against them and their two companions, Sajid aka Jani Marri and Asghar Marri.
