Four held for making couple parade naked

DERA GHAZI KHAN, July 5: Following strong protests by residents of Mauza Jhoke, police on Saturday registered a case under 354-A and arrested four accused who forced a couple to parade naked on July 2.

`H’, her spouse Bashir and an infant were on their way back on Wednesday evening from Jhoke Uttra after obtaining medicines for their sick son when Ramazan Rana along with his accomplices Khaliq and Khalid stopped the couple. They made the couple parade naked at gunpoint. After the incident, the woman attempted suicide. The motive of the incident was stated to be a land dispute.

When this correspondent met her, she was in a state of shock and unable to speak properly.

Later, area people held a demonstration and demanded registration of a case against the accused. People alleged that the police was not registering the case rather trying to conceal the episode.

When this correspondent visited Jhoke Uttra police station, the SHO was not available for comments. However, the DPO told Dawn that now proper section of criminal law had been invoked and the four accused arrested.

Locals, including Notak UC nazim Mahmeed Aslam Jalbani, councillors Maher Nazar and Ameen have appealed to the Punjab chief minister and the IG police to take notice of the inhuman act.
