‘Eco-Women Movement’ launched

KARACHI: Launching a unique campaign titled, ‘Eco-Women Movement’ (EWM), Subah-e-Nau Chairperson Shahida Kauser Farooq urged women to take part in the efforts to fight environmental degradation.
Talking about the campaign, Farooq said, “EWM was launched with the idea of ensuring maximum participation by women for helping the environment.” Addressing a press conference at Karachi Press Club, Shahida said that the Federal Environmental Ministry has declared 2009 as the ‘year of the environment’. “For us, it is a dream come-true with regards to environ-mental activities and is a much welcomed positive step,” said Shahida.
She said that the EMW is part of a global campaign and is aimed at empowering women to tackle health and environment issues on self-help basis. Shahida said that the philosophy of the campaign is to help women tackle challenges in order to build a healthier society, adding that EWM offers a forum to women from all walks of life.
