Criminals gang rape farmer’s wife; rob cash, valuables

SUKKUR: Three accused allegedly gang-raped a woman in the presence of her husband and children in the limits of Umarkot on Saturday.

Par Khan Kolhi, a resident of Eight Mile Hiral, revealed that three armed men barged into his house late on Friday night when he was sleeping with his family, including wife and four children. He said the armed men made the inmates hostage on gun point and robbed the cash which he had earned from the sale of his cotton crop and also stole gold and silver ornaments.

He said the three men later gang raped his wife. He identified one of the accused as Hanif Chandio of the same area. Telling his woeful story to local journalists and police, he said when he called Hanif by his name, he asked his accomplices to catch him and then Hanif and the other two raped his wife Hemi in the presence of children. The victim said he rushed to his landlord Muhammad Husain to inform him about the incident. Later he, along with other area people, chased the accused and reached Hanif Chandio’s home, who escaped from there but his father assured that he would produce his son before the police.

The victim complained that he and his landlord reached Ghulam Nabi Shah Police Station for registering the case but Munshi Faiz Muhammad of the police station refused to register a compliant as in charge Sohail Khaskheli was not present. He also did not issue a letter for medico-legal test.

The case had not been registered till late on Saturday when this correspondent files the report. Former MNA of the MPL-F, Faqir Jadam Mangrio, condemned the act of gang rape. He alleged that the police was made hostage by members of the ruling party. He said the Umarkot police do not take action against criminals without permission from the local leaders of the ruling party.
