Community drive to prevent violence against women soon

ISLAMABAD: The next phase of community campaign to prevent violence against women initiated under the auspices of Ministry of Women Development and Youth Affairs would be started soon, an official said on Wednesday. Talking to APP, she said several proposals were being considered to make the next phase more effective while including the media to prevent violence against women and promote their rights. She said the first phase of the project involving a total expenditure of Rs 38 million, had been successfully completed, adding hopes were high to achieve the same concrete result from the next one as well. She said besides other objectives, the campaign was aimed at promoting women’s rights and creating awareness through print and electronic media. She said the first phase of the project included communities’ mobilisation in collaboration with NGOs, with a special focus on rural women in the selected five districts where the ministry was operating crisis centres.
