Authorities have apprehended 54 individuals and confiscated more than 21,000 kites and strings this month in a sweeping operation against the hazardous practice of kite flying in the federal capital. The intense campaign, initiated under special directives from Inspector General of Police (IGP) Islamabad Syed Ali Nasir Rizvi, targets both sellers and enthusiasts of the dangerous activity.

During the ongoing indiscriminate crackdown, various police teams successfully recovered over 11,000 kites and more than 10,000 strings from the possession of the detained sellers and flyers.

Cases have been formally registered against the accused at various police stations throughout the city, and further investigation into the matter is currently underway.

SSP Operations Islamabad, Qazi Ali Raza, stated that parents have a crucial responsibility to educate their children about the severe dangers and legal consequences associated with kite flying. He urged citizens to fulfil their social and legal obligations by playing an active role in preventing the practice.

To bolster public awareness, announcements have been made in masjids across every police station’s jurisdiction, detailing the hazards of kite selling and outlining preventative measures. “Kite flying is a dangerous activity that can result in lifelong disability or even death,” SSP Raza emphasised.

He affirmed that the crackdown against kite flying and its associated trade will continue with full force, describing the activity as a crime that will be dealt with strictly. The Islamabad Police is committed to taking continuous legal action against this deadly pursuit.

“Moreover, kite strings pose a serious threat to human lives, and the loss of innocent lives due to this hazardous sport will not be tolerated,” he stated.

SSP Raza reaffirmed that protecting the lives and property of citizens remains the foremost priority of the Islamabad Police, and every possible step will be taken in this regard.
