RAWALPINDI: A woman was shot dead by her brother and cousin in Dhoke Lakhan on Tuesday, police sources said.

Maryam Ayub, 22, was killed allegedly by her brother Mohammad Amir and cousin Zafar Mehmood as she refused to go with the person with whom she eloped some months ago though later she had come back to her parents` house after reconciliation.

Police said Ms Maryam`s mother, brother Amir and cousin Zafar Mehmood were trying to convince her to go back to her paramour`s house but she refused to do so that annoyed both her brother and cousin.

According to the investigating officer, the mother of the deceased said when her daughter refused to obey her brother and cousin, they got angry and shot and killed her.

Later, the alleged killers escaped from the scene.

Meanwhile, a private security guard, Qurban Ali, deployed at a gas filling station was killed as the gun he was carrying went off accidentally in the New Town police area.

His body was removed to the DHQ hospital for autopsy.
