Attackers deface woman’s face with acid

A man allegedly took revenge from a woman for rejecting his marriage proposal eight years back by throwing concentrated acid on her face and body here on Wednesday evening.

The shivering episode took place in broad daylight when two people intercepted a 29-year-old married woman in a busy street of Gulistan-e-Jinnah Colony, and threw acid on her face and body and sped away in a jiffy. Nobody dared to clutch the attackers.

People, who witnessed the crime, claimed that one of the attackers roamed around the house of the victim carrying a bottle concentrated acid.

The neighbours rushed the woman to the Rawalpindi General Hospital (RGH) in critical condition where doctors referred her to the KRL Hospital in Islamabad for better treatment.

The Sadiqabad Police have taken up the case but no arrest was made till the filing of this report.

The victim’s husband Muhammad Iqbal, son of Muhammad Ismael, resident of House no. 8, Gulistan-e-Jinnah Colony, told ‘The News’ that Zafar, son of Dost Muhammad, belonging to Sargodha, was interested in marrying Saif Bibi (now his wife) and proposed her eight years back after the murder of her first husband, Muhammad Yaqoob (elder brother of complainant Muhammad Iqbal) but she rejected his offer and got marriage with him with the consent of her family.

According to the complainant, at that time he threatened to take revenge of ‘insult’ and settled in New Katarian, Rawalpindi, about two years back.

“I shifted to Rawalpindi, along with my wife Saif Bibi and her daughter from my elder brother Muhammad Yaqoob, and started living happily,” Muhammad Iqbal said. He added that he hired a house in Gulistan Colony after getting a job as driver of an officer.

He, nominating three attackers – Zafar, son of Dost Muhammad, Hussain alias Sainu and Adnan belonging to Sargodha – said that Zafar and Sainu intercepted his wife when she came out of the house to buy pampers for their daughter from a convenience store in front of his house and sped away after throwing acid on her face and body. He said that Adnan kept waiting in a Suzuki Alto car on Murree Road and all attackers managed to escape towards Islamabad.

The Sadiqabad Police told ‘The News’ that raiding teams have been sent to Sargodha and New Katarian to arrest the attackers, claiming that they would be arrested within 48 hours.
