Are we insane?

Sir: If we take a closer look at recent news items from different parts of the country, we can be forgiven for thinking that this nation has lost its morality, humanity and social decency. In Multan, a 20-year-old boy named Zeeshan dug up his house in a bid to retrieve hidden treasure on the advice of a fake pir (holy man). Then, in Badin, an innocent 12-year-old girl was molested by a local mosque’s imam. The girl was brutally killed after being sexually assaulted by the imam along with three accomplices. Then news came of the murder of two innocent children — Nadeem, a resident of Abbottabad, was accused of killing his two nephews on the directions of a fake pir.

Has this country gone collectively insane? Why have we forgotten the basis of our religion in which it is said that the killing of one innocent unjustly is like the killing of the whole of mankind? Such news items, on a daily basis, show the darkness of our society. We are frustrated and have lost our minds, having no moral values and sense of goodness. This happens due to lack of education and by not properly understanding our religion. It is therefore requested from all of you reading this to please ensure better understanding of our beautiful, peace-loving religion, and for the higher authorities to ensure the rule of law.
